Yaoyu Wu

Yaoyu Wu at Amberside Advisors

"Working at Amberside Advisors gave me an amazing start to a career in project finance. I’m grateful for all the support provided by my lovely team that encouraged my professional development."

My story

I joined Amberside Advisors in July 2022 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, followed by a master’s degree in financial management. Prior to joining Amberside Advisors, I worked as an investment analyst intern at a private wealth management company. I decided to choose the non-qualification pathway and began in-house training on day one. The bespoke intensive induction programme, along with project involvement, equipped me with solid Excel and financial modelling skills. Taking the non-qualification route has allowed me to have more time and flexibility to develop both soft and technical skills, which I wanted to focus on in the early stages of my career.

My time at Amberside Advisors

Since joining Amberside Advisors, I have worked on a range of mandates including financial modelling, model audits and valuations projects, which spanned from the public infrastructure to renewables sectors. Outside the daily work, there are also plenty of social activities to get involved with. Last year, while participating in the Generation Dacorum Schools Careers Fair 2023, I found it was a great opportunity to connect and share with the next generation of employees about the advantages of pursuing careers in project finance.

What's it like at Amberside Advisors

What I value the most about working at Amberside Advisors is the opportunity to take on new responsibilities. I was given early exposure to run through the training to new joiners and liaise with clients. Recently, I have also led my first operational model project, which allowed me to demonstrate my knowledge and apply all my recently gained skills.
