Partnership models for financing heat networks and local energy systems

Amberside Advisors is hosting an IPFA webinar exploring how strategic partnerships between municipalities, investors and energy companies can help unlock investment in the next generation of local energy infrastructure.

Across Europe, cities and municipalities are looking to modernise local energy systems, improve resilience and accelerate decarbonisation. Heat networks are expected to play an increasingly important role in this transition, but delivering projects at scale requires more than technical solutions. Successful delivery depends on creating partnership models that align public objectives with commercial requirements and provide confidence for long-term investment.
Taking place on 15 October 2026, the IPFA webinar “Partnership Models: Financing Heat Networks and Local Energy Systems” will bring together perspectives from investors, municipalities and energy transition specialists to explore how these challenges can be addressed.
The discussion will consider:
- what makes local energy projects investable;
- how municipalities can work with private partners to deliver strategic energy infrastructure;
- the role of policy support, funding mechanisms and risk allocation;
- which lessons from the UK and wider European markets can support future investment opportunities.

Speakers:
Maria Balyasna, Associate Director, Energy Transition, Amberside Advisors (moderator)
Umut Aydin, Senior Investment Director, Meridiam
Alice Berry, Head of Net Zero, Brighton & Hove City Council
Rémi Cuer, Head of Business Development and Investment Director, Kyotherm
The session is being delivered in partnership with IPFA and will bring together stakeholders from across the energy transition sector to discuss how public and private partners can work together to develop investable local energy systems.
