Shivali Mathur joins Amberside Advisors as the new Associate for Energy Transition

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Shivali Mathur as the new Associate for Energy Transition in our Commercial Advisory team.

Shivali has extensive experience in global energy market, spanning decarbonisation of heat, carbon management, energy efficiency, sustainability strategies and renewable technologies. She has a strong background in leading big capital payments, strategy development and programme management.

In her last role as a Head of Programme Management Office at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Shivali was responsible for supporting delivery of Energy Price Guarantee programme, one of the most significant government interventions ever made in the UK’s energy market. Prior to that, she supported local authorities with developing heat networks projects as part of her roles at Heat Network Delivery Unit at BEIS, before being tasked with heading the transition of Covid-19 Vaccine Unit to UKHSA on behalf of BEIS vaccine taskforce.

Having spent her last four years working for the UK’s central government, Shivali has exceptional understanding of the regulatory landscape and broad experience in contributing to policy development. In her career, she has been frequently engaging with a variety of stakeholders like trade bodies, LEPs, Local Authorities, key industry players, investors and regulators like Ofgem, fostering business partnerships and building alliances.

Shivali is also a founder of Public Sector District Heating Divas group. As a leader passionate about fostering the next generation of talent and helping people achieve their potential, she participates in mentoring schemes at BEIS, Heat Network Divas group and in Durham Alumni group. Beyond her professional endeavours, Shivali also finds joy in the strategic and teamwork-oriented dynamics of cricket.

At Amberside Advisors, Shivali will be working alongside Mark Easter, Head of Commercial Advisory team, and her main responsibility will be to drive the energy transition agenda, with particular focus on engaging public sector. Her understanding of heat networks market, as well as her insight into local authorities’ pain points and ways of working, places her in a unique position to help progress rollouts of new energy transition projects in that sector.

Upon her appointment, Shivali commented:

“I am thrilled to embark on this new chapter, driven by the profound opportunity to work with Amberside Advisors and Steer in catalysing the realisation of the UK’s net-zero strategy. My enthusiasm stems from the chance to actively contribute to the monumental energy transition, leveraging my cross-sector experience to create innovative models that propel us towards a smarter, decarbonised energy system.

This endeavour isn’t merely about commercial, financial, or technological advancements; it’s about weaving social values into the fabric of our energy landscape. By working tirelessly towards this common goal, we aim not just for a greener future, but a future that fosters positive social impact at its core.”

Mark Easter, Head of Commercial Advisory, said:

“Shivali’s appointment to the team is a key pivot point as we grow our comprehensive commercial and financial advisory offering across the decentralised energy market. It will ensure we are able to provide our services in the most effective way to public sector clients, who are so often the originators and keyholders in unlocking urban Net Zero.

Shivali brings commercial experience as well as understanding from our colleagues in the DESNZ Heat Networks team, and I wish her the best on capitalising on the sector growth, particularly in the context of incoming Heat Network Zoning.”

We are delighted to have Shivali onboard and we wish her the best of luck in her new role.
